Hut-to-Hut 3: Saalfelden
Passauer Hut – Diessbach Resevoir – Ingolstädter Hut
Contact us for custom dates
The huts around Saalfelden are absolute local favourites. You’ll have a true Pinzgau experience on this trip; big cozy mountain huts, alpine lakes, and natural wonders like the Melkerloch rock formation.
There are two options for this trip, so we are able to tailor this trip to your group’s goals and running style. You can choose from a longer route or a more relaxed option; run as far and climb as high as you want. This trip begins in Weissbach bei Lofer and goes to the Passauer Hut. After seeing the Melkerloch, it continues to the other side of the valley to the Diessbach Resevoir and up to the Ingolstädter Hut. Two magical nights under the stars will make the final day of downhill feel like a breeze. A final stop for coffee at the Kallbrunnalm completes the perfect weekend in the Mountains!
If you are able to run between 10 and 20km a day, one of these options will be perfect for you! Just get in touch with us and we’ll help you pick the right one. We hope that you’ll join us on this adventure so that you can experience Pinzgau just like the locals!

Requirements
ABILITY
Experience running in variable terrain is important. However, if you’re used to running on roads and flat paths, you can still have a blast in the mountains. You will find it beneficial to warm up your legs, feet, and ankles for your trail running adventure by strengthening them with some basic strength exercises. We will be going over specific techniques before our outing, but the more prepared you are, the more fun you’ll have!
FITNESS
Having endurance and agility is key when running in variable terrain; and having ‘mountain legs’ is a bonus! This hut-to-hut tour does not have any extremely long days as far as distance goes, but the endurance option’s elevation gain/loss is significant. Before you commit to that option, make sure you’re up for back-to-back days with an average of 900/1350m of climbing. With plenty of time planned for the long sections, we are able to move at our own pace when we are on the more difficult parts of this trip.
EQUIPMENT
Trail running is meant to be light and long, where you pack smart in order to be as efficient and safe as possible. You will need shoes with an excellent tread and the ankle support you require. Additionally, you will need ample nutrition and water, an extra change of clothes (including thin gloves and a hat), sun-cream, and a light rain jacket. Light hiking poles are also recommended as they are guaranteed to ease your troubles on the climbs and the descents! See our detailed equipment list for more information!
