Most of these day trips can be combined to make a unique multi-day trip, and most of our established multi-day trips can be dissected to fit your wishes. Triefen Waterfall

Hinterthal > Steinernes Meer

Distance: 3-5km

Climb: 200m↑

Highest Point: 1200m

Terrain: Beginner

Time: 1-3 hours

Description: Nestled between the Hochkönig massif and the Steinernes Meer lies a natural monument called the Triefen of Hinterthal. Triefen means ‘trickling’, and appropriately defines the curtain-like raindrops that can be seen in this picture – a breathtaking natural phenomenon! This trip is classified as our easiest hike as it stays on simple terrain making it very accessible.

Steinalm Hut

Saalfelden > Steinernes Meer

Distance: 6km

Climb: 450m↑

Highest Point: 1268m

Terrain: Easy

Time: 2-4 hours

Description: Leaving from Saalfelden, a beautiful hiking trail leads to the Steinalm hut (1268m). The hut is surrounded by idyllic alpine meadows and offers a magnificent view of the Saalach Valley. The Steinalm hut tour is a popular destination for families as it has a quaint playground as well as traditional cuisine and refreshing beverages.

Krimml Waterfalls

Krimml > Hohe Tauern

Distance: 11.5km

Climb: 650m↑

Highest Point: 1583m

Terrain: Easy

Time: 3-5 hours

Description: At the beginning of this tour, you can already see the Krimml Waterfalls in the distance. Austria’s largest waterfall acts as a natural air conditioner throughout the whole tour! The trip begins with an ascent through a fairytale forest with intermittent views of the falling water, getting louder with every step. At the top of the 380m waterfall, we move into the Krimml Achen valley to the Hölzlahneralm. This hut offers a great spot to take a break and rest the legs. We finish off the tour with a relaxed downhill back into the Pinzgau valley below.

Geisstein

Bürglalm > Kitzbüheler Alps

Distance: 6km

Climb: 700m↑

Highest Point: 2363m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 3-5 hours

Description: A short taxi ride brings us to the delightful Bürglalm hut at 1700m. While this hike is not exceptionally long, it does go in some very exciting terrain that gives you a true alpine experience! You can look forward to summiting the highest grass-covered mountain in all of Europe! The return trip will have you excited for the Bürglalm’s delicious local cuisine and refreshing beverages.

Peter-Wiechental Hut

Saalfelden > Steinernes Meer

Distance: 8.5km

Climb: 900m↑

Highest Point: 1752m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 3-5 hours

Description: Starting in Saalfelden, this trip features various terrain and landscape, as it moves from the lower forested elevations into the coniferous shrubs found between the tree line and the alpine. The higher we get, the more we can see the rocky Steinernes Meer above. Eventually, we come to the perfectly situated Peter-Wiechentaler Hut. Equipped with Austrian cuisine and comfortable seating this hut is the perfect place to have lunch or watch the sun set.

Thumersbach > Dienten Grass Mountains

Distance: 9.5km

Climb: 800m↑

Highest Point: 2011m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 4-6 hours

Description: This tour begins at the Mitterberghof and climbs through farmed fields and forest until it reaches the tree line, where mellow grassy terrain awaits. The tour continues to the Schwalbenwand, a peak with fantastic views of Lake Zell and the Hohe Tauern National Park. After the descent, an optional stop at the Mitterberghof is a special treat, as local cuisine with a spectacular view awaits!

Thumersbach > Statzerhaus Hut

Distance: 12km

Climb: 1100m↑

Highest Point: 2117m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 5-7 hours

Description: Leaving from Thumersbach across from Zell am See, a 6km hike into the Dienten Grass Mountains brings us to a delightful mountain hut called the Statzerhaus. Here, home-cooked meals and refreshing beverages await, while we take in the amazing views of the Hohe Tauern National Park. Accompanied by a constant view of Lake Zell, a relaxed descent brings us back down to Thumersbach. This tour offers quick access to classic Austrian mountain life and relatively high elevations!

Schwarzenberg Hut

Ferleiten > Fusch Valley

Distance: 16km

Climb: 1250m↑

Highest Point: 2264m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 7-9 hours

Description: A short drive into the Fusch Valley brings you to this route’s trailhead. This tour starts relaxed and eventually gains elevation quickly as you approach the 3000m+ peaks of the Hohe Tauern National Park.  In the midst of massive peaks like the Hohe Dock, Big Wiesbachhorn, and the general rugged wildness of the high alpine, a quaint hut might be the last thing you expect to see. You will be delighted with traditional Austrian dishes and refreshing cold beverages to quench your thirst.

Larmkogel: Above 3000m!

Hollersbach Valley > New Fürther Hut

Distance: 13km

Climb: 1500m↑

Highest Point: 3017m

Terrain: Challenging

Time: 6-8 hours

Description: The Larmkogel is unique. It’s a peak that is at the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park and sits just over 3000m above sea level. A taxi takes you up the picturesque Hollersbach Valley to the beginning of the hiking path to the New Fürther Hut where you can stop for a quick snack before storming the summit. Strength and sure-footedness are necessary on this trip due to the nature of the route which consists of one long climb and one long descent in the high alpine.

Glemmtal Summit Tour

Lindlingalm > Kitzbüler Alps

Distance: 20km

Climb: 1900m↑

Highest Point: 2178m

Terrain: Moderate

Time: 9-11 hours

Description: The Glemmtal, famous for being one of the largest ski areas in Europe (Saalbach/Hinterglemm), is home to a unique landscape featuring classic grass mountains as well as the rocky peaks that are found above the tree line in the Kitzbüheler Alps.  At over 2000m above sea level, this never-ending chain of peaks is divided by playful saddles lined with small bodies of water and views of Austria’s highest peaks. With the lovely Lindlingalm restaurant as our trailhead, a delicious traditional meal will await us after our long day in the mountains. Conquer five 2000m peaks and hike alongside beautiful lakes on this unique adventure!

Guiding Fees

  • Half day (1-4 hours) 120€ + 10% for each additional person
  • Full day (4-8 hours) 220€ + 10% for each additional person

Additional Costs

Transportation

  • Taxis are the best way to get to and from some trailheads. They typically cost 20€ per ride for the whole group. Multi-day trips take up to four taxis and day trips take up to two.
  • Lifts are useful to save time and energy on initial climbs or descents. They allow you to hike at a more scenic elevation for more of the day! They cost between 15€ and 30€ for the day per person. Few trips include lifts.
